It’s always a colourful parade and provides great family fun. The Chamber being the sole organiser of the Parade raises money through contributions from large and small businesses as well as bag packing and a bucket collection on the day. It is a real voluntary effort by members of the Chamber and we are proud to play our part in this important day.” The Parade, that starts at 3pm on Saturday 17th March, will include the usual mix of dancers, horses, cars, music and colour and will be is preceded by entertainment on the viewing platform at Market Square. On the day the independent judges view the parade with various categories in mind including community, sports, youth, band and dance. Each category winner receives a plaque and the overall winning entry receives the Danny Doherty Perpetual Plaque plus a cheque for €500. The parade starts at 3pm making its way from Pearse Road via Port Road, through Main Street past the viewing platform at Market Square to finish in Old Town. Christmas Lights
Christmas Lights Switch On
25th November at 6.00pm
Market Square, Letterkenny
Letterkenny Chamber is responsible for Lighting Up Letterkenny during the Christmas period giving Letterkenny an opportunity to showcase the town to its many visitors and shoppers from across the County, North West and further afield.
Displays stretch from Port Road through the traditional town centre to Old Town and in recent years blue Christmas trees now adorn the roundabouts to welcome visitors and shoppers during this busy festive season. The beautifully decorated traditional Christmas Tree, supplied by Coillte, is located at the Courthouse and don't forget to visit Market Square in the heart of Letterkenny Main Street as it becomes a grotto of twinkling blue lights and from early December you can also visit the Christmas Crib.
Each year Letterkenny Town Council offers financial and practical assistance that is gratefully appreciated and with the continued generousity of Letterkenny businesses we can ensure that Letterkenny shines as brightly as other towns in the North West.
The big switch on ceremony performed on 25th November by the Town Mayor accompanied by Santa marks the start of the important Christmas season.
Entertainment starting at 6pm with The Conwall Singers followed by Encore Performing Arts Academy.
Why not bring along all the family to meet Santa and join in the fun.
